For all of this movies fanfic-feeling incredibly fanciful portrayal of highschool, 2012-ness, and icky bullshit, it made me happy. It’s stupid, it’s cheesy, it’s cringe, but it’s also sweet, heartfelt, and fun. I had a very negative image of this before watching, but found something very nice. :)

Kinds of Kindness 2024
It’s inherently hard to review an anthology, but all in all I’d say this movie succeeds at what it is trying to achieve. Unfortunately, however I do not particularly care for what it’s trying to achieve. The first two stories do a very good job of giving a feeling of unrest without outright horror, something Yorgos Lanthimos seems to have mastered. It’s subtle, while clear, and gives the viewer a lot to think about and engage with.

I’m very rarely one to like any kind of high fantasy or sci-fi, especially those that deal with warring kingdoms, massive creatures, or incomprehensible lore. It’s also rare for me to pick a Japanese animated film. That all said, I cannot recall the last time a film drew me in this well, had me rooting for and against characters while understanding them all.
