Normally crime thrillers don’t do a lot for me. But I think with how insanely good the cinematography is and how disciplined at not overcooking the editing or score, it’s just an incredibly engaging piece of cinema to me.

There was a lot to like, but the movie felt 3 hours long to me instead of 2 and there were some odd character quirks and motivations that kind of irked me. Kai disappears after the first half for no reason, and there could’ve been a little more insight as to why the Mickey’s shift in personality.

It was also impossible at times to understand what the actors were saying, a lot of mumbling and poor mixing. But besides that a lot to like.

Yeah I just uh, yeah I liked it.

It was definitely a less abstract story from Robert Eggers which is I guess good. It didn’t lose any potency from me in terms of quality just because it wasn’t as open ended as Witch or Lighthouse. It took me a minute to remember Shakespeare is a talentless hack who never wrote an original work in his life, and when I did I remembered that this was the story Hamlet was adapted…
