This movie could’ve taken a much darker tone if Billy was any less childlike and weirdly vulnerable. Billy’s character was executed nicely and I felt bad for him, there were many times where he exhibited a childishly frustrated demeanor but as the movie went on and we got to see Billy’s parents and glimpses of his childhood we see exactly where he gets his short temper from.
Layla got hit with the WORST case of Stockholm syndrome i’ve ever seen…

The play is phenomenal from start to finish. I went into the play knowing it would slowly start to reveal its dark undertone but was still surprised at the reveal of the armband at the halfway point. The last scene where the characters were reciting their most important lines like “it was just children on their way to school” and “If you were German you’d understand” hits incredibly hard knowing what was to come to Germany soon after the events…
