The Power of the Dog 2021
I squealed for your Oscar win and then you had to go and patronize/embarrass KEVIN COSTNER.

Hard Times 1975
There's something kind of zen in both the picture and in Bronson's performance. It's atmospheric, beautifully designed (the primitive religious art in his apartment was out of this world) and more restrained than other 1960s/70s era Great Depression depictions. I don't think it'll be 5 stars for everyone, but it absolutely satisfied my particular tastes. I love you, Walter Hill.

Metropolitan 1990
Maybe my favorite non-Christmas Christmas movie?
Metropolitan is a cozy blanket of a film, reflecting a very specific time and place in such a wonderful way.
Whit Stillman post film q&a at the Olympia Film Festival -- the moderator wore a tux and poured Whit's water into a martini glass. I died a little.

At Close Range 1986
This is a stone cold masterpiece. There were hints of brilliance in Foley's RECKLESS but this is a whole different animal. The folksy variation on Madonna's Live To Tell (my favorite Madonna song) pumping over a crane shot of Mary Stuart Masterson running into a dusty cornfield is the epitome of cinema. This one will live in my heart forever.
