I mostly enjoyed this, fast paced, good soundtrack. Interesting story told from perspective of young Kazakhstani men in Greece after the collapse of the Soviet Union, hustling in sex work and doing crime to survive. Some great visuals of Athens. The overall quality lets it down however and female characters could have been treated a lot better, the plot and ending was also a little too cliche for me

Beau Travail 1999
I had been meaning to watch this for a while and it did not disapoint. What a masterpiece. I found the experience of watching it almost hypnotic, getting to feel the meticulous rhythm of military routine and the clashing tension of repressed desire and jealousy. A slow burn culminating in one of the best in cinema, so creatively and memorably tying the whole film together.
My only regret is having to watch it on my shitty laptop, would love to see that sparse, beautiful desert and vibrant Dijibouti nightlife on the big screen. 5 stars and one of my all time favsTranslated from by

Taste of Cherry 1997
Woke up late on a Sunday with a strange craving for some slow-paced, richly layered and melancholic artsy cinema. Saw this on Mubi and figured it would hit the spot, and it surely did. Watching Mr Badii's tortured drive around Tehran, discussing life and pain and suffering contrasted against such a gorgeous scenic background, was one of those cinematic experiences that will no doubt stick with me.

Challengers 2024
Lots I liked about this film but something didn't really land for me. Loved the soundtrack and the chemisty between the leads, Zendaya was magnetic, but the implied, teasing queerness felt too comfortable and safe for me, there wasnt much sex, and the product placement was distracting. But also wish I hadn't read the hype/commentary because if I focus on the film as it is its a lot more enjoyable
