i mean, it aged, but it's also a fascinating look at filmmakers actively learning to adapt from other mediums. this is very clearly a play translated to screen, as in, there's a couple sets and not a lot of variety in cinematography. the action is all in the fast-paced dialogue. and, fun to see some meta-humor in there about ralph bellamy's character and how he looks like, well. ralph bellamy.
also cary grant is very nice to look at.
spectacular. filmmaking at its peak. this could not have been anything BUT a movie. two hours of absolute dread, every discipline a masterclass. the way this movie explores the intersection of sex, shame, fear, power, and violence is going to haunt me for weeks. the treatment of light and darkness, the use of reflections. the many different sounds of breath. the shot transitions. the performances. immaculate. cinema!
tightens up the story of shrek and adds a bunch of fun songs. sutton foster tap dances. the farquaad costume is such a fun time because the actor is on his knees. 'who i'd be' makes me unironically emotional.
took me way too long to figure out that the male lead was ted from schitt's creek. very good cast, very fun watch. everyone is bringing it all and knows exactly what movie they're in. good to see joe la truglio on screen again, too.
