Jesus Christ Superstar 1973
Truly a superstar of the 70’s, JCS is a well executed example of how anachronism can elevate a story that the audience is already well familiar with.
Carl Anderson absolutely kills it as Judas, which is in character. Ted Neely plays off of him incredibly, and every scene together has such strong mixed feelings of reverence, love, and conflict, most poignantly in the climax of Everything’s Alright.
Beautifully shot and framed, from fun choreographed numbers, pan outs that hold an almost Baroque esc quality to the masterpiece that is the entirety of Superstar, JCS establishes itself deservedly as one of the greatest films of the 70’s.
