Pastoralist "blue collar" navel gazing with wealth encroaching from all sides. The film seemed utterly uninterested in its characters, which does to some extent work within the motif of horticulture. Characters die without fanfare, their motivations are imperceptible, none have any great charisma, and the "romantic leads" have no chemistry as far as conventional filmmaking goes. Yet there is something beautifully unsettling about this movie, like watching grass grow.
Watch out for the orientalist penis hydra. It really comes out of nowhere (like most developments in this movie)
