This is one of the most fun movies ever made. Shoes the value of keeping the cast small and fleshing out the side characters.

The Loved Ones 2009
I love how this is essentially an extreme look at how we deal with grief and rejection. You’ll not find a healthy coping skill in this movie, but you’ll definitely know what not to do! It falls apart in the end, but the first two thirds are exciting, feel almost dangerous, and kept me quite intrigued. Had the ending been a little more anarchic like the rest of the storytelling in this movie I think it would have had modern classic potential. Worth your time if you can handle torture scenes.

The Substance 2024
This is the movie we’d get if Cronenberg didn’t take himself too seriously and allowed himself and the audience to find the fun in body horror. For the cult horror fan it plays like a Highlights Magazine hidden pictures puzzle of references to some of our favorite movie moments. The satire is as subtle as a spiked sledgehammer to the sternum and satisfying as a syringe sucking the stenchy secretions of a seeping sore. Lovely film.
