i was at the park with my son a couple days ago and he had brought this little beyblade toy with him — he went to traverse one of the play structures and left the small piece of plastic behind. i scooped it up because, after all this time mitigating other lost toys, i had learned my lesson.
we played for an hour or so, running from sand to grass to concrete to tan bark and the toy was nowhere…
“Carol, did you know the sun is gonna die?”
“What? I never heard that... Oh, come on. That can't happen. I mean you're the king, and look at me, I'm big! How can guys like us worry about a tiny little thing like the sun, hmm?”
What movie captures childhood better than this? All the highs and lows, fears and doubts... all the reckless imagination. Where the Wild Things Are is a very important film to me, and watching it…

crazy that the 20-something guy obsessed with his pinball high score dating a teenager turned out to be a bad guy, these movies and their plot twists never fail to surprise me!! (part of the good dad canon.)
the way that this is not only the sole movie my toddler pays attention to start to finish, but pays attention to like she’s Obama in the Situation Room reacting to the news of Osama Bin Laden’s death, is something that tickles me to no end. movie’s okay!
