  The film has a lot of interesting scenes showing minorities and uncomfortable human behaviours that (can) happen but are rarely portrayed. It's experimental and progressive in style. Overall, Korine has a talent for creating memorable scenes with no substance behind them. The film is the definition of pretentious to me.
