The opening titles let you know that you’re in for quite the puzzle. Another crackerjack entertainment from the Finchman that’s got another curveball to throw just when you think you’ve got it figured out, all the way to the very end. And just in case you’re not thinking “Hitchcockian,” the woman shows up with the Vertigo hair.

We may have a new best baseball movie. Would have been the number one movie last year. Amazing cinematography pauses at times to take in the natural beauty of the surroundings, a brief reprieve from the constant back and forth of shit talking dudes.

And the film captures it all. The rhythm of baseball. Guys hanging out. Being around people you might not like but are always around. Inexpressible sadness over changes out of your control.

Be patient and take the time with this movie, and soon you’ll be in love with this misfit crew of ballers. Instant classic.

His screen presence speaks to the film’s greatest strength: the filmmakers’ unwavering confidence in everything they do, from the kinda corny childhood flashback scenes to the spliced in Bill Clinton, the grandstanding courtroom denouement to the perfectly done special effect shots. And standing above…

Every six years, the great directors should remake one of their earlier films with a bigger budget, better production values, and crazier lead performances. The original may possess the ultra low budget charm and DIY scrappiness but number II perfects the blend of grotesque violence and Three Stooges-esque slapstick silliness. And the makeup and practical effects are taken to another level while maintaining a certain je ne sais quoi, or hand made quality.

The alive camera is its own character,…
