I didn’t know that much about the true story behind the film so I can’t speak too much on the accuracy. I don’t doubt however that much of the plot is accurate, because why would you make it this slow and boring unless you were trying to just tell it as it was. Watching movies on prime with ads really bugs me because I became accustomed to luxury. This is to say I could easily imagine in a more dedicated viewing I might like it more.

Matthew McConaughey is the man. The child actors are outstanding. The plot is fun and exciting. It’s youthful and adventurous while also being heartbreaking.

As fun as the plot is, it’s got some random holes in it. Who are the bad guys? I’m not sure. Why are the kids going along with all of this? Not sure but I guess it’s fine. How does it all shake out? They don’t bother to make it possible. It’s hard to look best these funny things and then a slower start, but a movie like this is worth it.

Nosferatu and The Revenant’s beautiful love child.

It is visually unbelievable. I love that the movie has so much more darkness and shadow that really makes it feel real and mystical. I love that it’s got Bjork in it (one of my all time crushes). I love that it leans into the mystique and traditions of the culture but doesn’t feel the need to justify or explain it. I love that it plays with your feelings and expectations, and all…
