This is the film that inspired The Fall by Tarsem, and despite its many flaws, it really made me respect both this film, its story, and The Fall so much more. Of course I also found myself weeping more than once, as anyone who has seen The Fall will likely not be surprised by.

If this film was just the blind girl and mermaid boy storylines and nothing else it would have been virtually perfect. Instead, the director nearly ruined his film by shoehorning in a woman with an anus for a face from a prior short film that it seems like he felt pressured to include. Really sad he did that, like the CGI dinosaur scene in Tree of Life, but still an incredibly beautiful film that made me cry twice with an absolutely killer final moment.
