Cross of Iron 1977
Peckinpah's only war film set on the Eastern Front during WW2 sees the German advance a long forgotten dream. With overwhelming numbers of manpower and weapons the Russian advance becomes a reality.
Told from the German perspective looks at the conflict between officers and men and the futility of war.
The main players are superbly portrayed by James Coburn and Maximillian Schell, with a strong supporting cast including James Mason and David Warner.
Retrospectively viewed as one of Peckinpah's most powerful work.
