A mediocre movie. Decent cinematography for the most part, a couple neat things in sound design, but the story seemed a little sloppy.
It's hard to judge old films sometimes. I had some giggles, but a lot of the old slapstick humor just isn't really my thing. Comedy in general isn't really my first choice in the first place. Despite an ignorant inaccuracy or two though, the film does a good job of speaking out against the Nazi regime, and war in general, before the U.S. had even entered the second world war. A rather inspiring speech from Chaplin at the end. Certainly a very notable film for its time, that goes without saying.

This movie seems like an interesting experiment, but there was barely enough plot and intrigue to keep me engaged in the story, and my suspension of disbelief was stretched way too thin with all of the animal characters being about 90% human-like and 10% animal-like. Didn’t know birds had such expert sailing abilities. I thought the vague spiritual stuff was kinda strange and out of place, or maybe it was supposed to be some technological hint of another possible fate for humanity. Overall I think the story was just a little too abstract for the themes to really hit home. Good try.
