Holds up incredibly well; a stunning display of visual and sonic atmosphere. Thematically intelligent and creepy as hell.

Time After Time 1979
A ridiculous, unnecessarily well-made movie in which H. G. Wells invents a time machine that is then promptly stolen by Jack the Ripper. Shenanigans in 1970s San Francisco ensue. This film seems to be trying to say something about political philosophy, with the socialist utopianism of Wells pitted against Ripper's Hobbesian fatalism. But maybe I'm reading too much into it. A great addition to Jack-the-Ripper-time-travel media, which also includes classic SF tales by Robert Bloch ("Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper"…

Total Recall 1990
Has a hard time melding non-stop action and hammy Schwarzeneggerisms with the existential themes and paranoia of Philip K. Dick, but this is still a fun ride.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call – New Orleans 2009
Unsettling and unhinged portrayal of corrupt policing. A crack-saturated psycho Nic Cage tries to get high and settle some debts (and incidentally solve a murder case).
