It's been said before, but Renoir's films really do seem to contain the whole world.

Rocco and His Brothers 1960
I realize this film is a product of its time, but I just can't get on board with how cruel it is in its treatment of the Nadia character (who, incidentally, is more interesting than any of the brothers). It isn't just that she suffers, it's that her suffering is treated as far less important than the effects it has on the Parondi family. It's a moral argument I find kind of disgusting.
Honestly, after finishing this I just wanted to go rewatch Nights of Cabiria to wash the bad taste from my mouth.
