I couldn't stop viewing this from a immigrant point of view, rather than the romantic angle. Maybe cause it felt more personally pertinent to me than the long lost/what if romance, but I saw Nora's attachment to Hae Sung as holding on to Korea. Home that no longer feels like home, but something else entirely. She tries to relive that life she had, and eventually understands that you can't go back.
