This is more like it! Gritty, epic, pretty boring, with some crazy religious symbolism. The perfect Easter film. Although tame compared to ‘The Passion of The Christ’ I watched a couple nights ago, it was ultimately more poetic and reflective, questioning the ideas of faith and truth, and the origins of christianity. Scorsese does Channel 5 thriller. Solid 3 out of 5.

Even with all the gore and creepy shit (which I loved btw, especially sexy Satan dressed like Richard O’Brien in Rocky horror), this just felt like a very straight telling of the Passion. Like a VERY high budget advert for Christianity that you’d get shown on vhs in Sunday school or something. Still, i found it very watchable. And my catholic upbringing meant I knew the plot inside and out. It felt like watching the film of a book you just read and thinking “yeah, that’s exactly how I pictured it in my head” whether you liked the book or not.
