Both satisfying and wounding to watch. Drowning in indulgence and complacency the protagonist sinks deeper into a boundless hell of existential immolation. With a lush score by Tim Hecker. While the director wields this infernally sick humor at every turn. Skarsgård, in writhing, scarcely worded agony for most of the film, anchors the pace with perfect emotional dynamic. Meanwhile Mia Goth consumes the screen with intoxicating nihilism and seduction.

Masterful. Truly a film executed in its time for the ages. My heart sank deep at the metaphysical implications of what I thought was the end, but it had one more act still. Many hours later, I wandered back into my dark apartment alone, and the atmosphere of the film crept into every unlit crevice - a feeling I haven't felt from a film since I watched the Exorcist.
