the beginning was kinda boring but the ending was great. i love the symbolism and how they showed that the only way she knows how to express affection or gratitude is through sex but still thinks people are going to take advantage of her, hence the ending (at least imo). the story arc/progression and the buildup to her relationship with vanya (or lack thereof) wasn’t what i expected but i think it helped show what kind of character she is. i see why it got the palme d’or.

i don’t usually like baz luhrmann films but omg… claire danes’s portrayal of juliet was amazing and i really didn’t understand what was going on in some parts of the text when reading it, but, in this, what was going on was clear in each scene. the score was also amazing— i didn’t expect radiohead at all.
