First time I watched this, I was more taken with the fantasy out of thin elements a la Rivette. A huge sci fi story made with low budget resources, and just a gesture here and there to signify beyond what the camera captures.
That's all still really cool, but this time my reaction was more like
"omg 🥺🥺... it's really all about love 😭😭😭
Very important distinction to make here between shock and scuzz. The shock value does wear a bit thin, but the straight-from-the-gutter scuzz is welcome throughout. Miike has some room to grow with dramatics, the brother rescuing doesn't ultimately feel earned, but as a whole this is imaginative enough with Miike touches to be memorable.

3rd watch - stone cold masterpiece. there are no flaws. thematically, visually, experientially god tier. finely manicured writing that reveals itself to be smarter and funnier with each revisit.
