If this is strictly supposed to be a spoof of adventure shows of the era, then it’s a brilliant comedy. If it’s meant to be a straight super hero action thriller, its clumsiness in execution and cheesy writing isn’t excusable. Whatever it is, it’s wild. Feels like it’s three hours long, though. Best performance goes to Alan Napier.

Striking cinematography and a career best turn from Mads highlight this gripping and intense period piece that has no business being as engaging as it is. A bit slow in places, and a little too bare bones of a script are small bumps in the road. But the film as a whole is a rewarding watch.
