  Singin' in the Rain was a musical film about a film studio as it transitions from silent to talking films. Don is a big movie star that has a successful career during both silent and talking pictures and his costar Lina was successful during silent films but not during the talking films. Lina gets jealous of Kathy, who is getting the attention of Don. The elements of sound and lighting as the movie built the storyline of the movie around songs that had previously existed.

  Kwaidan was a compilation of four Japanese stories that was directed by Masaki Kobayashi. These stories dealt with the supernatural aspects of the horror genre. The use of spirits, forces of nature, haunted hair, and the person inside of water. The elements of the supernatural strikes fear into the characters which influences how they respond to the experience they are faced with.
