This film could so easily have been utterly crap. It isn't.
Saoirse Ronan is amazing and the casting is absolutely spot on.
Not an easy watch and a relatively long film on an alcoholics life falling apart, mental health and self isolation must have been a hard pitch to get commissioned.
Not a favourite film or one I ever want to watch again but one I know I will remember and feels important to me in some way I can not articulate.
I smiply can not imagine any one but Saoirse pulling this off.

Unbelievably dull. To be fair, I was watching with the awful Netflix english dubbing as I could not be bothered to read the captions.
    Gave up half way through.

It has not aged well and is a little uncomfortable to watch in parts. Beatlejuce, upon seeing the deceased couple, says something along the line or these two don't look very bright and I think that sums up the two main characters. Lyda (Winona Ryder) is the stand out character and saves an otherwise mediocre film.

An underrated classic. It looks horribly dated and makes me feel very old. It is worth watching just for Ewan McGregor's hair.
No other film encapsulates the 90s quite like this film with "cool Britannia" running through and swinging wildly from manic optimism to utter despair. Not always an easy watch but utterly brilliant.
    Disturbing but brilliant.
