  Watch it. It's on Youtube. It is a kind of afrofuturist time bending account of Black diasporic music, which REALLY utilises the potentials of its medium.

  I love the figure of the narrator, I love the landscapes, don't love Goldie's assertion that Africa is somehow of the past, pretty ignorant commentary.

  Incredible to see what Akomfrah achieves in the pursuit of understanding and representing the kinds of affective absences experienced by Black disporic subjects. It's so strange, it's so good.

  I think the very end is one of the best parts of the film ahead of what will be a confrontation with the police, where music and resistance effectively become one and the same.
  Love the engagement with the aesthetics of surveillance here. Is it NF or is it Police? And what difference does it make?

  Representations of gender based violence are tough to watch but not fundamentally superfluous. Representations of homophobic violence are also hard to stomach,…

  Jaw dropped on a few occasions. Another fucking awkward film to watch on the plane- I felt like a perv. That film is kind of mad. It's giving class analysis thriller? There are some pretty good representations of rich English people having fun here, feels pretty accurate. Struggling to find motivation for characters' behaviours/obsessions, but whatever. Some heavy handed race bits, honestly felt tokenistic, like omg the servants have names...
