The acting was excellent and I think the thesis about the Bob Dylan, that continuous reinvention of oneself is possible or even necessary in the face of an ever changing environment, is the right one for that enigmatic subject matter, but, unlike the songs of its subject, what it gained in intellectual precision it lost in emotional resonance. The emotional arcs ultimately fall flat because the movie fails to make me care about its characters. It was an interesting way to spend an evening, but I won’t be thinking twice about this one; it’s alright.
