Hawke and Delpy are so good it doesn’t even feel like acting. Their chemistry is effortless, their dialogue so natural it feels like you’re eavesdropping on something you’re not supposed to hear. In the beginning when Jesse first reconnect with Céline again, you can feel his heart breaking—regret, longing, love, all wrapped into one glance. In the car ride scene, it’s her eyes that tell the story of the realization of years lost.
It’s romance at its most intoxicating… and most painful.
