    Ferris Bueller's Day Off

    ★★★★

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, classic, endlessly quotable, and full of fun, stands as one of the best teen comedy movies of the 1980s. For me, it was always what a day of skipping school should have been but never was.

Matthew Broderick’s Ferris is the kind of character who would be insufferable to meet today, but he pulls it off with charm. The heart of the movie, though, is Cameron (Alan Ruck), whose existential crisis plays out alongside Ferris’s carefree…

    Final Destination

    ★★

The basic idea of what Final Destination is about is an interesting premise. Unfortunately, I find the execution to be garbage. There’s also never any acknowledgment as to why individuals have the premonitions of death. Seems like a missed opportunity.

    The Cabin in the Woods

    ★★★★

The Cabin in the Woods is a fun meta-horror film that, I think, successfully balances traditional horror with self-aware humor. They could have just made the horror movie involving “The Buckners”, the Zombie Redneck Torture Family, and it would have been another solid if not basic horror movie. The second layer of a massive team pulling the strings below, adding the running commentary on horror movies, is what makes this movie fun.

The cast is excellent, with standout performances from…
