Dune: Part Two 2024
Everything about this film is incredible. Cinematography (especially the infrared videography), pacing, themes, world-building, action—it’s all there.

I can see why some people have said it’s “boring,” but I think it was a beautifully executed film for a Part 1 film in a series. The exposition seems to drag along, but it makes sense when you follow along and you realize how applicable the themes are to current events. Cinematography and world-building are phenomenal.

The Boy and the Heron 2023
My expectations were subverted—it was intense, dramatic, and introspective when I thought it would be more “grounded.” Cried in the beginning a bit from the intensity. The artwork was marvelous between the 2d and 3d animation.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind 1984
The world building is absolutely breathtaking, though narratively it does fall short in certain aspects. There’s a good amount of exposition to explain the way the world works, and some elements don’t seem fleshed out enough (the giants, Nausicaa and the prince’s relationship. That said, it was still an enjoyable film overall!
