If I was a professional surveillance guy I would simply not be bothered by people spying on me.

Crazy this came out in between Godfather 1 & 2. The opening shot really drew me in and wonderfully encapsulates the film then drops you into it. Slowly circle the drain while we don’t know what’s really going on.

Hackman plays a great dweeb and Ford a slimy villain? It’s quaint watching this with the state of surveillance tech now, that we know of, and seeing Coppola depict little brother type spying. Cold War inspired some cool movies (endearing and scary).

Original review idea: “Micheal Clayton we have at home”

Micheal Clayton and Man on Fire but a throuple??

It spends an oddly long time on the hostage negotiation and wraps up with a classic 2000s action sequence. Not super complex but good characters and I’m always a sucker for Russel Crowe (who plays an Aussie Brit which is lovely)

Dealt a bad hand, many of the movies in the franchise, Romulus strikes a good middle ground on adhering to canon while steering to the franchise roots. I wish they had (or any movie) spent more time on terrible mining world rather than weird space science. The actors are great, the effect sublime, the use of clunky space vessels that are death traps right on! Probably the closest these movies have come to recapturing the claustrophobia of the original…I loved it. I’m very happy the final act takes what the prequels gave it and made it weird. I want more!

A well paced investigation into what is going on at this darn abbey. Sean is in his peak form, the setting is captivating, and the mystery is ever unfolding.

Setting this in an abbey somewhere in the alps provides a strong sense of isolation to everything. The lighting, staging, and costumes add so much to the experience. I feel oddly connected to the theme of the movie, and mystery, even today and think this is a wonderful experience (if melancholic).
