i enjoyed this movie a lot. the character work in the film is nicely woven together, with no loose ends. the film uses the sport of tennis as a backdrop of competition but they utilize every aspect of the tennis aesthetic. both actors played their roles extremely well and developed themselves as true characters but zendayas portrayal scares me.

nice to see some future stars so young and with the grittiness of the 90’s. the overall aesthetic and style of the cast was nicely done and style points can be taken from this. however, i didn’t really feel like the message of the movie was anything good. just a white man talking about black women and fetishizing them? maybe progressive at it’s time but it doesn’t get the cake. thumbs down.
