really interesting to look back on this now. the 40’s offered many women the opportunity to work outside the home, but the 50’s saw a wide-spread return of the nuclear family and traditional women’s roles. this feels similar to the cycle of the 2000s that we’ve just watched, where the obama era has given way to an uptick in conservative values. some of us will continue to push liberal ideals, even when faced with powerful institutions and societal pressures.
