Sure it's whimsical and far from Linklater at his best, but Christian McKay is note perfect and mesmerising, successfully reminding us it was Orson's world and we were all just living in it

Frank Grillo plays a bank manager who gets embroiled in a bungled armed robbery, derailing his life and from which he extracts his slow-burn revenge (reprisal!). Bruce Willis plays a Wilson-like neighbour who helps plan the getback, in a fairly subdued, and at times slurred performance which show the days were not so kind to him at this stage in his contractual duties. Not so bad as to be good, Reprisal just hangs there in one big meh.

"We construct gleaming highways, but we're a long way from modernising the mentality of people like...this."
If you've ever wanted to experience the oppressive ambience of rural Italy: its dry, earthen surrounds, its superstitions and religious repression, its mob mentality and outbursts of shocking violence...then watch this movie. One of Fulci's best.

So it's 1984 and you wanna watch a movie about a murderous psycho with blades on his fingers who leaps into people's dreams to kill them? Wait, there's more than one? This is a tight little entry in what I call the 'mind-thriller' sub-genre (think movies like Brainstorm, Looker or even Scanners), brimming with ideas and cool set pieces. Cocksure Dennis Quaid leads an impressive cast, including Max Von Sydow, Christopher Plummer, a young Kate Capshaw, George Wendt and David Patrick Kelly as the aforementioned psycho killer. Well worth your 90 odd minutes attention.
