  beautiful (the French village lit by fire at night was fantastic) but the soundtrack was too noticeable in a jarring way and the story kind of ran out of steam fairly early on

  i actually... really... enjoyed this??

  it wasn't revolutionary but the cast was a+ (olivia cooke and douglas booth stood out, with bill nighty excellent as ever) and made me feel emotions in the extreme. the golem was predictable but i don't think the enjoyment was meant to be derived from the mystery, rather the development. dropped a few stars because i wouldn't necessarily consider it a re-watch, but 1000x better than expected.

  i wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did, so-called epics often proving to be a sore disappointment, but the plummet in my stomach when tom hanks declared they'd "lost the moon" and the tension that followed despite knowing precisely what happened in the end made this more than worthy of that epithet
