Loved it to bits. Grew up with Mario so I got most of the references but I still think it’s a fun movie for kids. Not much to the story but to me that’s not a bother cause it’s a kids film. And Mario has never been that complicated itself.
This is a return to form for the animated mainstream as a whole. Disneys chokehold on the animated film industry has lead to some convoluted crocks of shit to be made but this? This is art. Dreamworks has yet again produced a sequel that is arguably better than the first movie.

Very on par with Christopher Nolans “The Dark Knight” in my opinion. Much like Nolan’s the cinematography is just so on point. The choice to run with the specific colour palette of red and black I think was such a fitting choice for the setting of Batman’s beginnings. The reveal was an interesting one but just didn’t pack the punch that us or get out had and the message it was trying to portray was kind of shilled with the whole side monkey plot.
