    Saltburn

    ★★★½

The controversy surrounding this film is certainly not surprising given the intensity of some scenes, though given Hollywood’s extremely high tolerance for portrayals of most types of sexual activity and psychological debasement, it does become somewhat unnecessary. ★★★★

While definitely one of the weaker Marvel Cinematic Universe entries as of recent, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is saved by the eclectic, visually pleasing direction of horror auteur Sam Raimi, as well as the grounded, down-to-earth performances of Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Xochitl Gomez and Benedict Wong. Marvel fans who enjoy the universe’s trademark humor may find themselves slightly disappointed at the markedly darker tone set by Raimi and screenwriter Michael Waldron, though Raimi fans will most certainly be pleased by the director’s interweaving of superhero themes with those of horror and psychological thriller.
