Genuinely really sad that I am so disappointed. I walked out almost speechless, because I'm not sure what exactly I was expecting but I'm of the opinion that Gerwig thought she was engaging in a way more biting critique of gender politics than she was, which made the script and overall film extremely difficult to endure. I think it would've been less painful if the film didn't seemingly attempt to address many nuances including the generational effects of unaddressed trauma. Gerwig tried to combine showmanship and satire in a way that fell extremely flat. :(
