Probably my favourite John Carpenter, and definitely the most genuinely Lovecraftian movie ever. A true meta masterpiece, with a fantastic central performance from Sam Neill.

Boy Kills World 2023
Fun enough movie. Great fight scenes. The central conceit of his inner monologue being another voice makes this different enough to make the film stand out, and avoid it being too generically “sci fi dystopia”. I didn’t actually guess the twist either, which is nice. The world didn’t feel hugely real though, and some of the “plot” bits drag somewhat.

Film of the year. Should have won all the Oscars. Nothing I can say about it hasn’t been said - but I loved it so, so much. Demi Moore is amazing. Margaret Qualley is amazing. Even Dennis Quaid is good as a creep Weinstein-like character. And amazing body-horror.
