  Just another trivial story about men seeking for wealth and fame while home and family stands behind in danger. Showing eternal conflict between feminine and masculine nature with pure, genuine poetry. Directing is so genius and the film eventually becomes so dreamily mysterious that you have no way but to transcend in it. Tarkovsky once said: "there are two kinds of directors, those who use the existing world and those who create their own." Mizoguchi certainly is the one who creates his own world integrated with existing problems.
