The Grand Budapest Hotel 2014
Very few films capture the tensive chaotic nature of 1930's Europe. One where fascism loomed in the background, brushing the character's lives but never once fully embroiling them in it. It's also a rather easy watch, despite being incredibly dense. It is by far my most favorite of Wes Anderson's films. This is his peak, this is where he shines. It my genuine belief that nothing else he subsequently makes will ever capture his little contradictions, or his clear fascination with the pastiche, or his attention to detail. It's funny, it's gorgeous, it's bittersweet, but most of all it's a premonition.

Brief Encounter 1945
This film shocked me in ways I couldn't imagine. There's a duality here. I want it to happen, but I also don't. I could feel the guilt coarse through, to the point I was wondering if the film was going to throw me a curveball. But no, instead I was left questioning their guilty pleasures, and unsure of whether they made the right choices.

Bram Stoker's Dracula 1992
A masterclass in editing and an example of good gothic horror. Best way to describe the film is like a hypnotic dream that you haven't realized is a nightmare. Your job is to escape it, or Dracula might get you too.
