  [Dune spoilers ahead] Now that’s how you adapt Dune: Part Two!
  I thought Zendaya’s portrayal of Chani was excellent and really humanized her character. The added wrinkle of the Southern fundamentalist Fremen versus the secular Northerners was interesting. I have mixed feelings on not doing the time skip. On one hand, that means Paul doesn’t have a baby who gets unceremoniously killed offscreen which is something I didn’t like in the book or the TV movie, but on the other…

  Porco Rosso 1992

  Porco is so cool! Michael Keaton’s performance in the dub is especially good. One of my favorite Ghibli movies I think,  and I like how it didn’t follow the typical Ghibli formula. Instead of a naive girl from the country discovering the stores of courage within her, it’s a middle aged WWI vet learning to restore his faith in humanity (and to become a little less sexist).  I’m sure someone’s written a good essay comparing the symbolism of pigs in Spirited Away (gluttony, consumerism, greed?) with that of Porco Rosso (cynicism, guardedness?).
  “I’d rather be a pig than a fascist” is a gem of a line.
