If Gone With the Wind depicts the death and destruction of the antebellum south, A Streetcar Named Desire shows the reanimated corpse of a southern belle shambling around in her zombified state. I prefer this southern gothic due to its limited scope allowing more room for character driven drama that is expertly given life by some of the best old school acting I've seen yet.
I find it even more impressive how a movie whose apparent mission statement was to build the thickest erotic tension the silver screen had ever seen was made in a post code hollywood but by golly they did it.
