Really disappointed, to be honest. The movie started off incredibly strong, but as soon as the house fight scene begins, it just completely falls apart. What exactly are Anora’s motives for fighting for this guy? Is it money? Is it love? The film almost convinces us she’s in love with him—but if that’s the case, what kind of messed-up past does she have to tolerate a love like this? It could be any of those reasons, or none at all.…

There’s something about this masterpiece that is absolutely wonderful, yet terrifying at the same time. It truly puts the viewer in the shoes of a domestic violence victim. When Denise mentioned that it usually takes seven tries before a woman finally leaves her abuser, I thought to myself, “There’s no way Alex is going to do that. She’s smarter than all the other victims.” (I know, kind of judgy.)
