I’ve watched this film in 10 minute spurts over the course of a year. I think the styling is so good, and it’s great to see Godard’s obsession with Anna Karina on full display, but it’s a pretty depressing movie overall and just really indulgent. There are much better Godard films out there

I guess we needed more James Stewart and Kim Novak after Vertigo (made in the same year). Worth watching just to see wild-eyed Jack Lemmon play a greenwich village beatnik going bonzo on the bongos. Besides that, it’s pretty conservative 60s fluff overall, with James Stewart playing to type as a square book publisher who gets wrapped up in a love affair with a hipster witch after moving to the village. Cute

Mostly watched this because I never had, and it’s the best known of Godard’s films. I feel like cool kids have been trying to copy the fashion of this movie forever.
