  ¡Three Amigos! 1986

  Had been a while since I watched this one, but I liked it about as much as I remembered. There are a lot of good gags but I do feel like there’s a lot of untapped potential. I mean it’s Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, and Martin Short, and it feels like they’re holding back pretty much the whole time. Good songs by Randy Newman, especially Blue Shadows, which is such a great scene. I’ve seen late 80s comedies that are funnier than this, but not many that are shot quite as beautifully.

  I didn’t think it was possible for a movie’s politics to be more obvious than Megalopolis, but here it is. Great sci-fi and stellar performance(s) from Robert Pattinson. Definitely not as good as Parasite, but I enjoyed it a ton.

  Extra half star for Timmy’s performance in this, he really has the character down and nails it in every scene. I thought all the leads were really solid, especially Monica Barbaro, and I really enjoyed all the Woody Guthrie scenes, but aside from the acting there isn’t much else that I found particularly noteworthy. The script is pretty solid, and I'm guessing a lot of the dialogue is pulled from reality, and there were a few really well composed shots…

  The Last Waltz 1978

  ★★★★★ Rewatched 22 Jan 2025 1

  Rewatched in memory of Garth Hudson, who gives immaculate performance after immaculate performance in this. A lot of people point to the sax solo in It Makes No Difference, and they’re right to do so as it’s one of the highlights of the film, but every second he’s on screen is just bliss. A true musician and a genius.
