watched director’s cut
the cat at the end devastated me in the same way that the bells at the end Breaking the Waves did. also the film as a whole works as a great case FOR “style over substance”
feels like tries to play off being charmless in an annoying way as being charmless in an endearing way and it’s just eughg. i liked it more as it progressed and it’s completely harmless but still it’s just kind of eughg.
but to its credit I was looking for something kind of lowkey and muted (I was in the middle of a stressful all nighter so it was also actually kind of therapeutic) and it gave me that so yeah
it’s like if an a.i. who was made to emulate an overly-stereotypical gay man and had only been exposed to angelmamii7 tik toks and indian soap opera editing styles developed adhd and self-awareness and decided to write and direct a science fiction movie while experiencing serious system failure (with costume done by the sims 2 character randomiser button with tons of alien dlc, and set design done by a struggling craft store that had recently been hit by multiple natural disasters), but that doesn’t even begin to cover it
