    CODA

    ★★★★

I believe CODA to be the feel good movie of the year. The one you watch with the family, one that sends a powerful message, a coming of age journey. With a smaller budget in mind, this movie is wonderful. The acting, especially that of Troy Kotsur, phenomenal. CODA makes audiences cry whilst making you smile at the end. A great movie to win Best Picture.

TAR shines through its interesting message about cancel culture through the lens of a flawed character, however the dialogue at some points leaves something to desire. I find myself intrigued to learn about Lydia Tar, and some of the long takes shows the audience who it is we are truly seeing. However I feel like this is also where the movie loses me at some points. I think if more was explained audience's could feel sympathy, even understand the character…

    La La Land

Words can't describe the devastation I felt as I finished watching this film, yet, I come away with underlying hope. La La Land tells an incredible love story between two dreamers, two people that have strong aspirations for themselves that eventually goes beyond even the love they share. The relationship between Mia and Sebastion is beautiful, true love can't be shown within film better than this. Production design is among some of the best I've seen. As the second directed film, Damian Chazelle has simply outdone himself yet again with another masterpiece

    Hereditary

    ★★★★★

An immediate classic to the horror, Hereditary shows that the genre can still create absolute masterpieces of film. I didn't think that while watching this film I would have been most impressed with the cinematography, yet it is one of the best I've ever seen. Toni Collette provides one of my favorite performances by an actress to date. The premise, the dialogue, everything is among the greatest films I've seen. Ari Aster is someone who's work I will be well aware of in the future.
