  What if Robert Bresson’s ‘Diary of a Country Priest’ met Martin Scorsese’s/Paul Schrader’s ‘Taxi Driver?’ You’d get this movie, which, being my first Schrader film, did not disappoint. The influence of Bresson here is especially apparent; Schrader adopts a very minimalist and relaxed approach behind the camera, letting small, little individual scenes guide the viewer towards the destination rather than guiding them by the hand himself.
